{1:36 minutes to read} Today I want to talk about life insurance and estate planning for those that can afford it and are insurable. Like peanut butter and chocolate in a Reese’s peanut butter cup, life insurance and an irrevocable trust are 2 things that go great together.
Robert Adler, an attorney and part of the team that we bring to our clients to implement the legal documents for their estate and financial plans, wrote an article called Life Insurance Elevates the Plan.
Today there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding estate taxes and people are finding it very hard to plan. In his article, Bob talks about some of the potential legislative changes that the democrats are looking at, such as repealing the “step-up” in basis rule. There will probably also be much debate in 2016 regarding the trade of estate tax for what is called the carry-over basis regime or capital gains at death tax.
Bob goes on to say that life insurance set up through a trust, will work no matter what happens with this legislative debate.
I urge you to reach out with any questions you may have and let us discuss with you how this kind of strategy can help with your estate plan.
