Washington Cares Act

{4 minutes to read}

Today, I’d like to talk about new laws in the state of Washington. Even though most of us won’t be residing in the state of Washington, there is an interesting new law that is going into effect called the Washington Cares Act. This Act is the state’s long-term care insurance coverage, intended […]

Changes in the Long-Term Care Business

{5 minutes to read}  Today, I want to go over the ongoing and continuous changes in the long-term care business. Since the beginning of 2021, we have seen two additional carriers pull out of the standalone or traditional long-term care space. Those carriers include MassMutual and Trans America, leaving a very small number of carriers […]

November is Long-Term Care Month

{4 minutes to read}

At the time of this writing, it is Election Day, November 3rd, 2020. And besides being a very big day in America, it is also Long-Term Care Awareness Month.

Long-term care, to me, is a very personal thing because both my parents and my wife Donna’s parents spent time in assisted living nursing […]

The Pain of Discipline Versus the Pain of Regret

Today, I want to discuss with everyone two concepts that overlap. One is called The Pain of Discipline versus the Pain of Regret. The other one is Risk versus Consequences.

In 36 years of doing financial and insurance planning with many different types of people, I recognize that sometimes when we talk about risk with clients, […]

When Did You Last Review Your Life Insurance?

{4 minutes to read}  Today, I want to talk about reviewing your life insurance. Years ago, somebody said to me, “Inspect what you expect.” In the last couple of years, I have had so many experiences with people who bought life insurance but didn’t realize that their policy had […]

Long-Term Care Insurance Update

{4 minutes to read}  Today, I would like to discuss, and update you, on the long-term care insurance market. Once again, as longevity risk and low-interest rates are continuing to put pressure on insurance companies, we’re seeing more increases. Companies are going back to their existing long-term care policyholders and raising […]

A Long-Term Care Update

{2:06 minutes to read} In the world of long-term care, there always seems to be a change on the horizon. Genworth, the largest carrier of long-term care insurance in America, reported a very large single quarter loss last year. The insurance company has just agreed to be purchased by China Oceanwide for $2.7 billion. (The agreement is in place but has yet to be approved by regulators.)

Whose Money Is It Anyway?

{3:36 minutes to read} When clients or individuals reach the age of 80-85, sometimes their health is failing.
