How Do You Define Good Planning?

{2 minutes to read} Today, I want to talk about what happened to me while I was visiting an advisor that works through my organization. She shared with me how someone had passed away, hadn’t done the planning, and didn’t have adequate life insurance. The family was desperate for money for last expenses, debts, and other financial obligations, putting the children in a vulnerable position. So they set up a GoFundMe page, which you see more and more these days on social media, telling a sad story about a family situation or an individual situation, and asking their network for money.

I don’t want to seem cold, distant or cynical. But I reflect on the fact that many times these are the same people that don’t recognize their responsibility for adequately protecting their family by purchasing the proper life insurance, disability insurance or long-term care. I think this is fairly common, and I imagine that each of the people reading this short blog has seen this before, as well. We need to raise money, so they set up a GoFundMe page, or they set up a golf outing, or they set up a fundraising event or dinner or whatever it may be.

I share this blog with you so that you can avoid that potentially difficult situation, by taking responsibility for getting the right coverages in effect to protect your family. That’s what good planning is about—disability insurance, long-term care insurance, liability protection, an umbrella policy, and the proper home and auto insurance—these are foundational to protect your wealth.
