{2:00 minutes to read}This month’s newsletter is focusing on Disability Income Insurance, sometimes referred to as the Achilles Heel of the financial plan, or the overlooked employee benefit.
When asked about disability insurance, many people respond:
As the article from Forbes (linked below) reports, your paychecks have 3 letters “LTD,” which is an employer sponsored long term disability plan, or it may say “NYS DBL,” which is a short term program that provides limited benefits. These plans create confusion as to whether you are properly covered. Individuals are usually covered by Social Security basic disability coverage, LTD, and New York State DBL, which might lull you into believing that you are adequately protecting your income. But as the saying goes, buyer beware. Many times coverage by New York State DBL or an LTD, and Social Security, may only replace a very low percentage of your income, and there is the real possibility that nothing will be replaced depending on how each of these programs define disability.
We believe you’re most valuable asset is your ability to earn income, so reviewing your current disability plan is extremely important. Review the article below and some of the links and videos included in this newsletter. Get educated on disability income insurance and protecting your most valuable asset. And then give us a call. We will be happy to try and help make sure that you are adequately protected.
